SYNOPSIS:
Three time Golden Globe nominee Meg Ryan takes on the role of Jackie Kallen, a woman who defied all the odds when she entered the male dominated boxing world and took it by storm. The daughter of a trainer, Jackie Kallen grew up skipping rope alongside her uncle, himself a fighter, in the downtown gyms of Detroit. It was in her blood. So when she sees the fighting potential in down and out Luther Shaw (Omar Epps) and persuades him to box with her as manager, it's not surprising that no one takes her seriously. Undeterred, this gutsy, middle aged Jewish mother battles on in this incredible fact-inspired drama, to become the most successful female manager in sporting history.
This title bout also features a star studded line up in the form of Tony Shalhoub as Midwest boxing kingpin Sam LaRocca, Kerry Washington as Kallen's co-worker and best friend and Charles S. Dutton as the veteran trainer Felix Reynolds who is persuaded by Kallen to come out of retirement and help her star fighter to become the best.
