By Odin's Beard! THOR gets leads!
Marvel Studios has announced the actor set to play Loki, the villain in 2011 PPI summer tent-pole THOR, while another actor is lined-up to put pen to paper in the lead role.
Chris Hemsworth (above left) is set to play Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, in the Kenneth Branagh-directed film. Hemsworth can currently be seen doing heroic battle in PPI's STAR TREK, in which he plays the ill-fated George Kirk in the explosive opening to JJ Abrams movie.
Tom Hiddleston (above right) has signed to play the villainous Norse God of Mischief of Evil, Loki. Hiddleston recently worked with director Branagh on the London stage in the acclaimed production of Chekhov's Ivanov as well as BBC detective series Wallander. He also won the 2008 Laurence Olivier award for Best Newcomer for his stage role in Shakespeare's Cymbeline.
The story is described as an epic adventure spanning the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard, about a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. The warrior, Thor, is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans where he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain, Loki, of his world sends Asgard's darkest forces to invade the Earth.
