Dreamworks Animation
2010-2012 plans announced!
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has announced the studio’s plans for the next three years. This included the company will increase its output to five films every two years, mixing franchise titles with original product. All of which will be produced in 3D.
This heightened output kicks off in 2010 with three releases, starting at Easter with original title How To Train Your Dragon. The hugely popular green ogre and friends will then provide a summer tent-pole in the SHREK franchise's 4th installment SHREK FOREVER AFTER. The end of the year will then see Robert Downey Jr voicing the lead in OOBERMIND, about a super-villain who finds life a little dull after he beats his hero nemesis Metro Man.
Po the Panda will be back to head up 2011 with the summer sequel KUNG FU PANDA: THE KABOOM OF DOOM. DWA will then release THE GUARDIANS for the end-of-year holidays. The original film is based on a yet-to-be-published book series which sees Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and other children’s mythological characters unite to defend the world from a Bogeyman-style villain.
2012 will again see three releases, starting off with the swashbuckling feline co-star of the SHREK franchise getting his own prequel spin-off PUSS IN BOOTS. Antonio Banderas will return once more to take on the velvet-voiced lead with Salma Hayek joining as love interest Kitty.
Summer 2012 will then see Alex the lion and his friends from the MADAGASCAR series involved with a travelling circus in Europe in the franchise’s third instalment. The year will finish up with another original title for the winter season, which has yet to be determined from three possible titles.
